Solo Effects releases the beta version of Kiwi FX 1.0, a set of powerful texture creation and post-production tools.
Kiwi FX is a set of image generation and manipulation tools including the standard Porter/Duff compositing operations and many other image manipulation tools. It also includes a full-featured shading environment making it a powerful tool for creating sophisticated visual effects, complex image compositing operations and generating highly detailed textures.
The creation of 3D virtual environments usually includes complex surface texture calculations. This results in computational overhead that often must be repeated every time a scene is rendered. Current hardware is powerful enough to handle many of these computations but there are still trade-offs between scene and surface texture complexity.
Kiwi FX is an image or texture space renderer designed to create a shading environment where surface texture calculations can be decoupled from the 3D rendering application. This allows complex surface calculations, including bump maps or height fields, to be rendered into texture space at high fidelity and saved as static textures that can be used at a significantly reduced cost at 3D render time.
Kiwi FX's shading environment makes it easy to create custom image operations and visual effects making it a powerful and flexible post production tool.
